Rivers Weekend
The RCABC Interior Rivers Weekend event is a river and white water canoe festival organized and led by RCABC Moving water Instructors and guides. It is often held in partnership with one of our regional clubs and it is held in a different area of the province and at a different time each year. This rotation is done to foster connections between regional paddling communities and our instructors and to time each event with optimal water levels for the region. We try to offer trips that are appropriate for both Novice and Advanced paddlers, but the availability of these options varies from year to year depending on the location and availability of volunteer guides and Instructors to act as trip leaders.
Past events have been held in the Thompson-Shuswap region ( Adams, Thompson, Clearwater Rivers) on the Labour Day weekend. In 2021, the event was held in the Cariboo region (Horsefly, Cariboo, Chilko Rivers) in early October. Over the next couple of years the RCABC plans to hold this event in the Southern Interior region (Similkameen, Granby, Kettle Rivers) in late June, or in the Kooteney region (Kootenay, Bull, White Rivers) in July. We would love to see the event hosted in other parts of our province one day too, including on Vancouver Island and in the Bulkley Valley!
Plans for each year are communicated to our members by email as well as through our social media accounts. So please join the RCABC as a Paddler Member if you would like to participate and follow us on Facebook Group and Page.
The Interior Rivers Weekend event is a free event and open to the public. However you must have all of your own gear such as a canoe with full floatation, helmet, pfd, dry or wetsuit, etc. You must also have appropriate previous training and experience - we recommend an RCABC Basic Moving Water Canoe Course as a minimum. Whether or not you are a member of an RCABC Canoe Club we strongly recommend that all participants sign up as a Paddler Member for only $15 a year to attend this free event.
