This 2 day course is for teachers who wish to take their students canoeing. It will cover the competencies and content for the new RCABC Lakewater Instructor Level 1 course. This course certifies successful candidates to teach RCABC Lakewater Level 1 and 2. It will also include the Paddle Canada Waterfront Instructor course which allows successful candidates to teach PC's Canoeing Basics and Waterfront Skills. April 1&2, Basic and Advanced Tandem lake canoe course. This a preparation course for the upcoming guiding course, but anyone is welcome! Learn to control a canoe as a team, forwards, sideways, spinning, backwards. These are the basic skills needed for advanced paddling (rivers or open water). This course (April 7-12 will be run as a training trip for commercial guiding and becoming a tripping instructor. The route will include Kamloops Lake and some fantastic whitewater on the Thompson River. Participants will be cooking with a full commercial kitchen, and coordinating camp as well as leading on the water with assistance from the instructor. Leave No Trace principles will be practiced and many skills such as navigation, rescue, proper loading of canoes, etc. will be practiced. There are a few spaces for guests who wish to come as clients for the guide candidates. Candidates may use the course to qualify for the RCABC Expedition Guide Certificate.

Canoe tripping leader or tripping paddler course. This is a 3 day canoe trip - April 21-23. Aspects of wilderness canoe camping are explored from the perspective of leading or teaching a group with open water, waves & wind. Camping skills, loaded canoe rescues, navigation, group travel, group kitchen, Leave No Trace, understanding weather, portage, leadership, safety etc. See the Canoe Tripping section of the website and contact Mike for more details. This course has been designed to provide entry level skills for leaders guiding guests on flat water or moving class 1 water. This course runs May, 29, 30 and 31. This three day course is a combination of the RCABC Basic Lakewater Tandem Paddler, Basic Lakewater Solo Paddler and the new Day Guide Module. Skills that will be covered include; basic paddle skills, rescue skills (including recovering capsized boats), boat handling and navigation, basic moving water skills (including ferries, paddling upstream, reading currents, hazard recognition, safety). Guiding skills that are covered include leadership, group management, teaching of strokes and boat handling and risk management. The focus of this course is to introduce basic paddling skills and guiding skills as they relate to leading groups. Participants will have an opportunity to gain experience through teaching and leading and will be assessed on their ability to demonstrate, teach and manage in a group setting. This course will take place on Alta Lake and the river of Golden Dreams with a focus on preparing successful course candidates to lead clients in these waters. Successful participants will receive the Day Guide Certificate. Currently this course is full however spots may open up closer to the course date.
