This course has been designed to provide entry level skills for leaders guiding guests on flat water or moving class 1 water. This course runs June 5 - 7. This three day course is a combination of the RCABC Basic Lakewater Tandem Paddler, Basic Lakewater Solo Paddler and the new Day Guide Module. Skills that will be covered include; basic paddle skills, rescue skills (including recovering capsized boats), boat handling and navigation, basic moving water skills (including ferries, paddling upstream, reading currents, hazard recognition, safety). Guiding skills that are covered include leadership, group management, teaching of strokes and boat handling and risk management. The focus of this course is to introduce basic paddling skills and guiding skills as they relate to leading groups. Participants will have an opportunity to gain experience through teaching and leading and will be assessed on their ability to demonstrate, teach and manage in a group setting. This course will take place on Alta Lake and the river of Golden Dreams with a focus on preparing successful course candidates to lead clients in these waters. Successful participants will receive the Day Guide Certificate. Currently this course is full however spots may open up closer to the course date.
