Lakewater Level 1 is a basic introduction to tandem canoeing. It includes the key information and skills you'll need for going on your own lake trips: controlling your canoe, handling capsizes and rescues, required and recommended equipment, safety guidelines, packing your canoe, handling wind and waves, and launching & landing. Join us for a FREE canoe safety clinic at Buntzen Lake (South Beach) on Sunday, April 7th, 2024 from 9am - 3pm. This clinic, led by certified RCABC instructors, will cover canoe safety and basic skills. Equipment is available to use or you can bring your own. Sign up for a 1-hour session by following the link https://forms.gle/ckwSrRHyAJH3Pky8A and filling out the form. The event organizer will contact you to confirm. Are you going on a trip to the Yukon River or the Bowron Lakes this summer? This canoe tripping clinic reviews the skills learned in the lakewater basic tandem canoeing course and covers skills for paddling in wind and gentle current, trip planning, portaging, loading a canoe for tripping, and rescuing a loaded canoe. Canoe and gear rental available for an added fee. Basic Tandem skills course available the previous Saturday (or equivalent) will prepare you for this course.

This is a Lakewater Instructor Recert/IT Clinic on the first day of the PaddleFest. Open to LWI whose membership is current. Course time is 9:00-4:00. Pre-registration is required. Registration is available through the RCABC Paddle Festival page at bccanoe.com. Registration is now open Mar 1. Please be prepared to paddle the tandem and solo circuits. We will meet in the camp parking lot.

April 27-28 (two days) Basic tandem moving water course. Paddlers must already have some tandem canoe training or equivalent skills prior to taking any river course. You don't need a partner to register. We will focus on safely launching and landing, doing forward and back ferries, eddy turns and peel outs, side slips & running side slips and surfing. Be prepared to get wet!! We will practice some rescues. Boats and equipment are available for an extra fee.
