The course begins on the evening of Friday Sept 6 (2-hrs in Vernon, BC), followed by two full days of paddling on Saturday and Sunday. During the theory session, you will learn about river canoes, proper whitewater outfitting, and wearing the right gear for a river. On the water, we will focus on learning basic strokes and maneuvers, identifying common features and hazards on the river, and practicing rescue skills. We’ll explore the habits, hazards, and features of the river and how we can use them to our advantage. Lakewater Instructor Level 1 course or recertification for LWI 1 or 2, Sept 21-22 & Oct 5-6. Excellent course for teachers and outdoor leaders. Self guided practice and theory preparation may be required in between the two weekends. Paddlers looking for instruction may be welcome to drop in too. Flexible as to type of participation...contact me for details! Instructor Trainer mentoring, LWI 1 to 2 upgrade or Recertification is possible during this course. Location to be determined. This course (Sept 25-30) is a training trip for commercial guiding. Location is the spectacular Kootenay River. Participants will be cooking with a full commercial kitchen, and coordinating camp as well as leading on the water with assistance from the instructor. Leave No Trace principles will be practiced and many skills such as navigation, a wide variety of rescues, proper loading of canoes, etc. will be practiced. Course dates are September 28/29 and Oct 5/6. Will be held on consecutive weekends. This 3 day clinic will run from 9-5 daily and prepare the paddlers for the Lakewater Instructor 2 exam on the 4th day. Successful completion will allow you to teach and certify all 4 levels of RCABC Lakewater courses. It will include: course prep, group dynamics and management, paddling skills and teaching practice. Prerequisite: RCABC Advanced Tandem and Solo. All canoes and paddling equipment are supplied. RCABC Lakewater Instructor Level 1 course and Paddle Canada Intro Tandem and Solo Instructor course . October 4th (Evening) 5th and 6th - Coquitlam - Buntzen Lake $240 plus GST. This course, is for teachers and people working with youth, who are experienced paddlers, and wish to receive Canoe Instructor certifications and be able to certify their students. It will cover the competencies and content for the new RCABC Lakewater Instructor Level 1 course. This course certifies successful candidates to teach RCABC Lakewater Level 1 and 2. It will also include the Paddle Canada Intro Tandem and Solo Instructor course which allows successful candidates to teach PC's Intro, Canoeing Basics and Waterfront Skills. Candidates should be strong paddlers and have experience paddling both Tandem and Solo. The course fee does not include the membership fee for either organization which must be paid prior to the course. Rental canoes are available.
