July 23-24 Basic tandem moving water course. Paddlers should already have some tandem canoe training or equivalent skills prior to taking any river course. You don't need a partner to register. We will focus on safely launching and landing, doing forward and back ferries, eddy turns and peel outs, side slips & running side slips and surfing. Be prepared to get wet!! Basic and Advance Canoe based river rescue, July 23-26, with an evening theory session on July 22nd. Small Group, Max 7 people. It is possible to attend for less than the 4 days but they must be at the beginning. Basic River Rescue covers a wide variety of everyday river canoeing capsizes and rescues. The last 2 days are Advanced River Rescue and cover more serious scenarios such as injuries, foot entrapment, swimming and wood debris, rope rescue and anchors, pinned canoes, etc. Flexible to include canoes loaded for tripping, spray skirts, solo canoes, etc.

Selkirk College Outdoor Academy. Aug 28-Sept 3 on the Slocan River. The RCABC Expedition Guide Course is designed for people that have previous camping experience and basic lake and river paddling training, who wish to upgrade those skills specifically for commercial expedition guiding on rivers, or to upgrade their leadership skills for personal trips. Skills include advanced paddling & rescue, group management in camp and on the water, risk management, etc. Pre-requisites apply.
