We are holding a canoe poling course on the weekend of October 18th and 19th in the Lower Mainland. Exact locations TBD and depends on water levels, etc. This course will be led by Leonard Thor. There will be a few Poling Instructor Candidates including myself in attendance and assisting. The course is supported by the RCABC and the cost is only $100 for 2 full days of instruction. If this is a financial hardship let us know and we'll see what we can do.We have extra poles to lend and sell at cost, but you should have a tripping canoe of about 16 - 17 feet like a Prospector or Explorer, etc. You will want a wet suit and helmet as we will be poling up river (as one does) in easy whitewater (class 1 - 2). Day one will cover the basics of course and no previous experience is required. Some moving water canoe experience is an asset of course though.Poling does require strength and balance. So it is recommended that you have reasonable level of fitness. We can accommodate more Instructor candidates. So Instructors, PLEASE come and start a mentorship towards becoming a poling Instructor yourself! Please contact Keiran Rankin AND/ OR Leonard Thor if you plan to attend...
